COPAA Calls to End Police Presence in Schools

Sep 8, 2021 | Behavior, Discipline

In a new report, the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates calls for the end of police presence in schools, citing little evidence that school resource officers have a positive impact in schools or help to prevent school shootings.

COPAA instead suggests that schools should train staff to address challenging student behaviors, use evidence-based instruction, use alternatives to suspensions and expulsions, hire more counselors and psychologists, provide behavioral supports to students with disabilities.
