Long Covid can Qualify Students for IEPs, 504s, according to US Dept of Education

A student experiencing long COVID or other conditions that have arisen as a result of COVID-19 may be eligible for special education and related services under IDEA and/or may be entitled to
protections and services under Section 504, according to the United States Department of Education.

The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) released guidance to provide information about long Covid as a disability, schools’ responsibilities to provide services and accommodations to students with long Covid, protections for students with long Covid under Section 504 and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and what to do if a student is experiencing long Covid.
