Civil and disability rights organizations joined together to file a class action lawsuit to challenge Oregon’s practice of placing students who exhibit disability-related behaviors on shortened schools days. Today, the disabilities rights organizations announced that they reached a preliminary settlement in the case.
Under the settlement agreement, an expert will examine the use of shortened school days for students with disabilities across the state. The expert will issue a report that describes the use of shortened school days and recommend additional actions, if any, that the Oregon Department of Education should take to ensure that all children receive an appropriate education with full days of school.
